Yujie Qian was born and raised in Zhenjiang, China. She completed her B.S. in Chemistry in 2020 at Penn State and Ph.D. in 2025 at the University of Pennsylvania (evidently, she has a strong affinity for the state of Pennsylvania). During her Ph.D with Prof. Marsha Lester, Yujie investigated the gas-phase vibrational spectroscopy and unimolecular reaction dynamics of intermediates relevant to atmospheric and combustion chemistry, such as Criegee intermediates and hydroperoxyalkyl radicals (⦁QOOH). She combined infrared action spectroscopy and laser-induced fluorescence with quantum calculations and kinetic modeling to characterize the infrared fingerprints of these elusive species and explore transition-state properties along their reaction pathways. In the Green group, she will be working on kinetic simulations of ammonia combustion as well as experimental measurements on multi-channel reactions. In her spare time, Yujie likes to read, paint, watch movies and play video games.
