Michael was born and raised near Nuremberg, Germany. He received his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Erlangen in 2014. During his studies, he completed an internship at Wacker Chemie AG to gain insight into the chemical industry. He then earned a master’s degree at University of Erlangen in 2016 where he worked on hydrogen storage using Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology in his master thesis. Afterwards, he did his PhD at university of Erlangen He then completed his PhD at university of Erlangen under the supervision of Prof. Wasserscheid, focusing on the development of reactor concepts for the dehydrogenation of LOHC. After completing his PhD, he joined Forschungszentrum Jülich, a German research institute, in 2020 to lead several demonstration projects on hydrogen storage using LOHC technology. He joined the Green Group at MIT in June 2025 as a visiting scientist for 6 months. He plans to work on the decarbonization of long-haul trucking and to explore computational approaches in chemical engineering.
