Sunkyu Shin was born in South Korea. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), where he specialized in process design and techno-economic analysis. He then received his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Seoul National University, focusing on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling for polymerization processes and molecular weight distribution. Following his doctoral studies, he joined Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering. In the Braatz group, he advanced his expertise in process modeling through modeling studies of lipid nanoparticle (LNP) process for mRNA vaccine with FDA. He is currently continuing his postdoctoral research in the Green group at MIT, focusing on detailed kinetic modeling of combustion burners for sustainable and green fuels.
