My name is Awele Uwagwu and I’m an undergraduate researcher in the Green Group. I am currently a Chemical Engineering sophomore at MIT. I transferred in Fall 2018 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign where I was also a Chemical Engineering major. Prior to coming to the US for college, I lived in Port Harcourt, Nigeria where I was born and raised.

I am personally interested in the energy industry and sustainability. With the Green Group, I will be working on extracting data from literature based on ab-initio quantum chemistry calculations to build a database for the group. In addition, I will learn and perform quantum calculations for the sensitive properties to enhance the accuracy of reaction models and will be making use of RMG to generate reaction models. Accurate models for larger hydrocarbon rings (which are a by-product from combustion of shale gas), could go a long way in understanding the process of soot formation to reduce by-product formation.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching soccer, playing soccer and watching movies
